The Service

Family Law Counselling service provides a range of activities including intake registration, screening and assessment, information, advice, referral, education and skills training, child focused groups, counselling, support and research / evaluation. Clients of the program include family members with intact relationships, separated families, extended family members, individuals, children and young people, couples and significant others in relation to children, such as grandparents and kinship carers.

The Role 

Your role as Counsellor will be assisting people with relationship difficulties to manage their interpersonal and parental issues during or post separation.

  • Screening, assessments and support planning.
  • Selecting and providing appropriate brief intervention supports for clients whether they be clients or carers.
  • Assessing supports and ensuring that they are appropriate to meeting client’s needs.
  • Deliver evidence-based counselling and group interventions.
  • Referring and assisting clients to access appropriate mainstream specialist services and support groups.
  • Providing information and education to clients, carers, families and other service providers; and providing and/or arranging support for carers and families.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor in Psychology, Social Work, Postgraduate in Counselling or related disciplines.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in counselling individuals, couples and families.
  • Experience in intake, case management and coordination of client services.
  • Relevant experience in working with children and families with complex needs e.g. domestic violence, homelessness, abuse, schooling issues. Whereby service design was inclusive of social, emotional, mental, and physical needs.
  • Knowledge and experience working within Child Inclusive Practice frameworks, desirable.
  • Highly developed clinical skills and knowledge and strong professional boundaries.
  • Well-developed communication skills and ability to work within a team environment.
  • Working with Children Check or eligibility to apply.
  • Ability to work two evenings a week until 8 pm when required.
  • WA Driver’s licence.
  • National Police Certificate.
