About Centrecare

The Role

Centrecare's Private Rental Advocacy Service provides short term to medium term (3-6 months) to clients who are in private rental accommodation, and at risk of becoming homeless. this includes dealing with rental arrears and consultation, but more importantly the underlying causes to the vulnerability of the tenancy. 

This will include working with families and individuals who are experiencing family domestic violence, challenges in relation to drug and alcohol use, mental health, employment and families struggling to meet their tenancy responsibilities in relation to cleanliness and maintenance.  In this role, the Case Worker will endeavour to link families to relevant services to address a range of issues including employment, health, financial management and social integration to achieve long term, secure, stable housing. 

A few specifics 

  • To undertake assessments and informal counselling to improve and enhance their overall personal and social development, and their health and wellbeing.
  • To deliver therapeutic and skill development services including assessments, counselling, outreach, capacity building, information, and referral opportunities for clients.
  • To provide access to recreational opportunities for children and their families where possible and appropriate.
  • To establish relevant networks and links with the community and other service providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients.

About You

  • Recognised tertiary level qualifications in Community Development, Social Work, Social Sciences or related disciplines.
  • Relevant experience in the areas of outreach, homelessness, individual/family support and/or case management.
  • Well-developed communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Computer literacy skills and the ability to collect statistical data related to service delivery.
  • Ability to work with a broad cross section of people to include business, other community-based agencies, private real estate agents, government and different socio-economic groups.
  • An understanding of strength-based approaches to client services.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Current Drivers' licence.
  • National Police Certificate and Working with Children Card
