Do you want to help people who are homeless?

Centrecare operates a Homeless Assessment and Referral Service assisting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to access accommodation and support options.

The Role

The position is based predominantly in a call room environment where you will be conducting assessments with people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, providing information and making referrals to accommodation and service providers. You will also conduct face to face appointments with clients. Clients may be experiencing a range of complex issues including domestic violence, substance use, mental illness and suicidal ideation. This position also includes making brokerage decisions and supporting the team in the Team Leaders absence.

A Few Specifics.

  • Authorise brokerage in line with the program and agency delegation of Authority
  • Carry out planning, studies or research for projects including aspects of design, formulation of policy, implementation of procedures and presentations.
  • Develop, plan, and supervise the implementation of educational and/or developmental programs for clients.
  • Involvement in establishing organisation programs and procedures.
  • Set priorities, plan, and organise their own work and that of lower classified staff when required, and contribute to the most appropriate operational methods for the team and service.

Skills and Experience

  • Recognised tertiary (Degree) level qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Mental Health.
  • 3 -5 years experience in social services sector
  • The ability to make sound financial decisions around provision of brokerage to people who require assistance
  • Demonstrated high quality assessment and interview skills.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • High emotional intelligence and resilience
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging and working effectively with young people, individuals, couples and families, who may be faced with multiple, complex issues.
