The Service

The Specialised Family Violence Services program provides sensitive, respectful person centred and risk and trauma informed support services for families including young people and children who are affected by family violence.

The Role 

As Counsellor, your role will be to provide intensive counselling for victim survivors including children, young people and non-offending adults, this will include the provision of education, advocacy and referral pathways for individuals affected by family violence. The role also includes counselling for perpetrators who do not fit mainstream services.

A few specifics:

  • Conduct risk assessments, safety planning, and risk management in line with best practice standards.
  • Actively support clients to engage and participate in counselling sessions, workshops, and programs.
  • Manage counselling caseload, conduct client assessments, and develop case plans based on clients' needs.
  • Facilitate training seminars and parenting education programs.

Selection Criteria

  • Recognised tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in counselling individuals and families, including children.
  • Experience working victim survivors of family domestic violence, including children.
  • Experience working perpetrators of family domestic violence.
  • Demonstrated experience in intake, assessment and case management
  • Knowledge and experience in parenting education and preventative programs/services e.g. Circle of Security, Bringing Up Great Kids.
  • Highly developed clinical skills and knowledge and strong professional boundaries.
  • Well-developed communication skills, written and verbal with ability to work within a team.
  • WA Drivers licence and own vehicle.
  • National Police Clearance (within 12 months validity).
  • Working With Children Check or eligibility to apply.
  • Ability to potentially work one evening a week until 8 pm if required.
